The meeting, Federalism and the Grid: Federal<br \/>\nand State Collaboration to Ensure a Reliable Electricity Grid, brought together governors\u2019 staff, state<br \/>\nutility commissioners, utility companies, federal partners and other industry stakeholders to discuss the<br \/>\nimportance of states and the government working together to accomplish the region\u2019s transmission needs.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Midwest is blessed with affordable and diverse energy resources that help our states maximize our<br \/>\neconomic development advantages and create more quality jobs in our states. By working with our major<br \/>\nstakeholders to rethink our approach to energy development, we can build a more reliable energy grid and<br \/>\na robust economy,\u201d said Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, Chair of the MGA.<br \/>\nRepresentatives from industry discussed storage innovations, their efforts to work across jurisdictions and<br \/>\naddress pending regulatory actions, and how consumer actions may affect reliability. Attendees were<br \/>\njoined by officials from the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the<br \/>\nFederal Energy Regulatory Commission, who provided insight into how states can better cooperate and<br \/>\ncollaborate with the federal government, as well as how the Quadrennial Energy Review will affect states.<br \/>\nThis was the fifth meeting the MGA hosted to highlight the steady progress in planning for the electric<br \/>\ntransmission needs of the future.<br \/>\nJesse Heier, executive director of the MGA, said, \u201cElectric transmission planning serves as a great<br \/>\nexample of how Midwestern governors are working together across state borders to strengthen the<br \/>\nregional economy, ensure grid reliability and continue to produce affordable electricity.\u201d<br \/>\nMore information on the MGA\u2019s regional transmission efforts is available at<br \/>\nwww.midwesterngovernors.org\/transmission.htm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013 The Midwestern Governors Association (MGA) concluded its fifth annual electric transmission meeting today in Washington, D.C.
